A raft of new laws could soon be introduced in Northampton, banning stakeboarding in the town centre, playing games close to roads and hanging from bridges.
Northampton Borough Council has revealed it is looking into creating the by-laws to tackle 'low level antisocial behaviour'.
The authority's community safety officer, Debbie MacColl, said the skateboarding laws in particular were needed.
She said: "In Northampton there are public safety issues with people skateboarding in heavily used public and pedestrian areas, particularly in parts of the town centre and multi-storey car parks."
If the by-laws were introduced, people caught riding skateboards or bicycles in Abington Street, outside All Saints Church, in the Market Square and in a number of other locations in the town centre could be fined.
Skateboarders and BMX riders have reacted angrily to the news and pledged to carry on using the town centre while no other facilities are available.
BMX rider Devan Koshal organised a protest ride through Northampton town centre at the end of last year to highlight the current lack of facilities for young people.
He said: "This whole thing just sounds ridiculous, it will totally alienate people. I for one will still ride in the town and I know most other people won't stop, because we're so passionate about the sport."
Other by-laws which could also be introduced include ones to prevent people putting fairground attractions in dangerous places and ones to clamp down on people urinating in the streets.
They could also be used to stop people from 'climbing on or hanging from bridges' and playing dangerous games close to roads.
Councillors will discuss the plans later this month, but officials have said outdated laws including one legislating for the 'driving of bulls through the town' would be scrapped.

thats right i put it out there.. fuck the police.
try to crush what they cant control .. how many reported casualties in the town center from skateboarding ...
they havent tried to meet the skaters half way, by saying some areas are aloud at certain time, they just said town skateboarding is guna be ilegal. well its the only public space, the rest of northampton is either housing or industrial were not aloud on industrial n how many people can you fit in someones garage n drive way on saturday afternoons.. plus neighbours are likely to call the police.
